2009 Nissan Rogue Problems

I have a 2009 Nissan Rogue and a couple years ago the passenger airbag sensor indication on the dash continually flashes and the airbag light shows it is turned off. After a lot of research it looks like this has been a problem in 2008 and 2010 Nissan Rogues and a recall was issued. The same airbags and sensors were used in the 2009 but no recall. This could be catastrophic if the vehicle was in an accident and the airbag did not deploy.

The dashboard airbag light is blinking and will not shut off. I have tried to reset it and it goes off but comes right back on. I have took it to an auto part shop for a diagnostic reading and no code comes up. I see on the internet where nissan has recalled 2008 and 2010 Rogue for this problem but not the 2009.

The automatic transmission CVT is jerking when accelerating and it is a problem when in traffic. This could cause an accident. It is a risk to use. No other vehicle and have to work. I will continue to use it. Took it to AAMCO and repairs are over $5000.00 and can't afford it. New transmission or repair the one on the vehicle.

CVT TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SWITCH GEARS EFFICIENTLY CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO MOVE SLOW IN HIGH SPEED ROADS & HIGHWAYS.

Nissan said they couldn't find any reports of this happening but I see many complaints. The suv refuses to go over 20mph, sometimes even lower. This issue has put my life at risk many times and I'm wondering what it will take for something to change!? It happened going uphill multiple times and seems to happen when traffic is at a stop and go. The only recall issue I saw had to do with snow and salt getting in somewhere. This seems to happen when it's warmer outside.

REPAIR AND REPLACE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION AND COMPUTER SYSTEM

This winter a crack in the seal opened up on the driver's side wheel well. We were not aware of the crack. We noticed that the car was collecting water in the carpets down on the floor board. The water became increasingly worse over time down on the floor of the car. We tried looking for leaks and drying out the car with towels. We could not find the leaks. We tried to dry the car out as much as possible, yet, every time my soon drove the car to school at Everett Washington Community College the water became increasingly worse down on the floor of the car. So, my son stopped driving the car for a couple of months. So, I bought the car from my son. He got a different car. I tried to start the car last Sunday at 3pm in the afternoon. Flames started down on the carpet directly below the pedals. Black, dark smoke billowed out from below the steering column. I ran into my kitchen to put out the flames. The battery is damaged too. The battery is leaking acid out of the side and bulging on one side. I took it to the dealership. To see if it could be repaired.

My air bag warning light is flashing on and off. I’m told by my repair man that the air bag is defective and the entire passenger seat needs to be replaced.

The driver's side seat is laying flat back and will not come up when I press the button. It has been like this for about two weeks. I am not comfortable driving the car but I need to have my mobility. I have a small special needs child and have not had her in the car since and have used uber on occasion. I live within public transportation in NYC so I have been taking a chance and driving like this to the subway and using the trains. I would like to see if my vehicle can be repaired under the recall #R21B9 regarding electrical issues, because based on what I am reading my issue is exactly as noted. Please review my incident and assist me in having the issue repaired. Thank you

WHEN THE TEMPERATURE WAS BELOW 32 DEGREES WHEN TRYING TO OPEN THE DRIVER DOOR HANDLE THE CABLE HAS CAME OUT OF THE HOUSING. WHICH NOW THE DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE.

FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LOCK STOPPED WORKING AND NOW ONLY WORKS MANUALLY FROM THE INSIDE

-The car was driving it started to smell burn. car was parked. 10 minutes later took fire. total loss. -Safety was at risk due to fire. -Car is a total loss -File a case with Nissan America on 6/2024 with pictures, police report and all, no solution as of today. A vehicle was purchased from Pristine Auto Sales in Hopkinsville, KY. Following the purchase, the vehicle was inspected by a licensed mechanic and he reported the following, "I/We ("Licensed Mechanic Shop") inspected "Owner's" 2009 Nissan Rogue vin# XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX today due to her hearing grinding when applying her brake to stop and the vehicle is pulling to the left when applying the brake to stop. I also noticed the airbag light is on as well. Upon inspection the brake pads, the pads in the rear of the vehicle are metal to metal (on the inside) and the front pads are 1mm thick. According to NHTSA vehicles should not be on the road or even be sold from a dealer with brake pads any thinner than 3mm. It is a MAJOR safety concern as it will cause an accident. Also, after inspecting why the airbag light was on, it is found that one or more of the occupant sensors are defective and therefor causing the airbag system to be disabled. In the event of an accident the airbag system will not work. It is also against NHTSA for a vehicle to be sold with a defective Safety system such as Airbag system." The issues were present upon purchase. The purchaser is not knowledgeable about vehicles. Given that the vehicle was sold with the safety concerns already present, it appears that this auto sale business is not in compliance with NHTSA and mechanic has spoken with the business and they were unwilling to cooperate to ensure repairs were made on vehicle.

The seat belt doesn't always lock when pulled all the way as it should.

THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR BECAUSE OF AN AIR BAG SEAT FAULT IN THE 2009 ROGUE CARS. THE 2008 AND 2010 ROGUE MODELS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM BUT A RECALL WAS ENFORCED ON IT. NISSAN ADMITTED THE 2009 SEAT SENSOR WAS MADE BY THE SAME COMPANY BUT IT WAS A VIN PROBLEM. FOUND ON YOUR SITE AFFECTED VIN NUMBERS ALL START WITH JN8AS58 INCLUDING MINE. WE ARE ALL HAVING THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM OF THE AIR BAGS BEING SHUT OFF AUTOMATICALLY. NISSAN WANTS 2000 DOLLARS TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM ALSO PASSES THE SAFETY PART OF A NYS VEHICLE INSPECTION. I THOUGH AIR BAGS WERE PUT IN THE CAR TO SAVE LIVES, BUT IS NOT CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE THEM NOT DEPLOYING. PLEASE PUSH FOR A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE DIES.

The passenger side Air Bag indicator has been on since 2019, was not aware I could report it here. I have not taken it to a Dealership because I can't afford to have it fixed. In 2018, I had to replace the CV joint and front rocker arms. A piece was cracked, and when I would turn I would hear a loud POP & TICKING sound from the front passenger side tire area. Again I paid over 1500.00 to have it repaired, I no longer have the photographs or the actual parts.

THE STRUTS WERE PURCHASED FROM ADVANCE AUTO (4240 MILLER RD, COLUMBUS, GA 31909) AND PLACED IN A 2009 NISSAN ROGUE BY THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER (HEADQUARTER NISSAN, 1725 WHITTLESEY RD, COLUMBUS, GA 31904, 706-225-8100) FOR MAINTENANCE WORK AND THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE STRUTS HAD FRACTURED DUE TO STRESS. THE STRUTS WERE TWO INCHES LONGER THAN THE MANUFACTURER'S STRUTS. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE TOW ALIGNMENT WAS OFF AND THE CONTROL ARM FAILED DUE TO THE FRACTURED STRUTS. THE STRUTS WERE NOT ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WERE NOT ORIGINAL PARTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 106,532.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS AWARE OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V393000 (TIRES), BUT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.

MARCH 23, 2011 DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE WENT IMMEDIATELY FLAT. UPON INSPECTION, THE PRESSURE SENSING VALVE STEM SEAL FAILED. ONLY ABOUT 1/8 OF THE STEM COULD BE FOUND. THE FAILED SENSOR STEM ALLOWED THE TIRE TO BLOW DOWN INSTANTLY. PICTURES OF THE FAILED STEM, TIRE AND RIM WHERE COLLECTED TO SHOW THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE RIM OR TIRE TO CAUSE THE STEM TO FAIL. TIRE AND RIM WERE TAKEN TO NISSAN DEALER AND STEM WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THANKFULLY IT WAS THE REAR TIRE AND NOT A FRONT TIRE. *TR

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY NOTHING MORE THE 50MPH. AND MY SUNROOF EXPLODED ON THE HIGH WAY WITH OUT NOTICE. THE GLASS CUT MY SKIN ON MY HAND. AND WAS A LOUD EXPLODING SOUND. AS I DONE RESEARCH ON MY EXPLODING SOUND ROOF INCIDENT ON GOOGLE ON THE INTERNET. I FOUND OUT I WAS NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS EXPERIENCED THIS SUNROOF GLASS EXPLODING WHILE DRIVING. NOTHING FELL ON MY CAR. BUT CAUSED GLASS TO FALL ON ME AND ALMOST A ACCIDENT FROM SHOCK OF THIS HAPPENING. I AM BEGGING YOU TO PLEASE MAKE THE 2009 NISSAN ROGUE SUNROOFS A RECALL. I WAS DRIVING ON A STRAIGHT PATH ON A CITY ROAD ABOUT 35-40 MPH HOUR AROUND 7:30 EST ON A CLEAR DAY. I HAD STOPPED AT THE RED LIGHT AND NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD SO I PULLED OVER AND LIFTED THE HOOD. THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE AND WHEN I LOOKED IN THAT DIRECTION I SAW THAT MY HEAD LAMP HAD FIRE COMING FROM IT. I PLACED WATER ON IT TO PUT OUT THE FIRE AND THERE WAS A LOUD POP THAT IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED THAT SOUNDED LIKE A GUN WENT OFF. I WAITED FOR MY EARDRUMS TO CALM DOWN AND WAITED TO MAKE SURE NO ADDITIONAL FIRE OR SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE CAR BEFORE APPROACHING IT.

THE HEADLIGHTS DO NOT SEEM TO BE AIMED CORRECTLY. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT IT WAS NOT A PROBLEM. WHEN DRIVING ON A POORLY LIT HIGHWAY LATE NIGHT OR EARLY MORNING, THE HEADLIGHTS DO NO PROJECT FAR ENOUGH OUT TO SEE THE ROAD AND DRIVE SAFELY. *KB

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving up an incline at various speeds, the stalled while depressing the accelerator. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle shuddered without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the rotor was replaced on the passenger’s side front however, the failure persisted. UPON COMPLETING A STOP AFTER TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE VEHICLE FAILS TO ACCELERATE UPON DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. THE VEHICLE FAILS TO MOVE FOR APPROXIMATELY FIVE SECONDS, THEN IT PROCEEDS TO MOVE VERY SLOWLY. THE VEHICLE ENGINE DOES NOT REV, THE RPM GAUGE REMAINS AT IDLE, EVEN WITH THE ACCELERATOR FULLY DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT MOVE. IN SITUATIONS REQUIRING QUICK BURSTS OF SPEED, SUCH AS ENTERING A MULTI-LANE HIGHWAY FROM A SIDE STREET, THIS HAS PLACED THE VEHICLE IN THE POSITION OF BLOCKING THE HIGHWAY WHILE FAST MOVING VEHICLES ARE APPROACHING. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP AS WELL AS A TRANSMISSION SPECIALTY REPAIR SHOP AND HAVE BEEN TOLD NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. *TR

UPDATED 09/26/14*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER DRIVING 80 CONTINUOUS MILES THE VEHICLE WOULD LOOSE POWER. IT WOULD DECELERATE TO 30MPH AND NOT RESPOND TO ACCELERATION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND REFUSED ANY ASSISTANCE. AFTER DRIVING 50 CONTINUOUS MILES AT A TIME, THE DRIVER MUST PULL OVER TO A SAFE STOP IN ORDER TO LET THE ENGINE REST FOR 10 MINUTES.
