2013 Nissan Sentra Seat belts Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the seat belt system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Seat belts reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

I am reporting a failed remedy for Recall R1608 (Occupant Classification System). My 2013 Nissan Sentra was serviced at Nissan of Van Nuys for this recall. Despite the dealership marking the recall as completed, the safety defect persists. Specifically, the passenger seatbelt warning light remains illuminated when the passenger seat is empty, indicating the OCS sensor is incorrectly classifying seat occupancy. This malfunction directly impacts the vehicle's ability to correctly deploy or withhold airbags in a collision. The dealership refused to re-evaluate the failed repair without legal representation. Furthermore, the Multi-Point Inspection provided during this safety recall visit was falsified; a technician hand-wrote a failing brake measurement of '3mm,' yet the Service Advisor marked the system as 'Green/Safe' on the final document. This documentation fraud makes their certification of the recall repair unreliable. They have since refused to re-inspect the safety defect.

My complaint is that Clear Lake Nissan failed to properly repair a recall on my 2013 Sentra. The recall is located at: https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2013/NISSAN/SENTRA/4%252520DR/FWD#recalls. The Recall Campaign Bulletin # NTB13-032b / Campaign ID#: PC213 / NTSA#: 13V-069. It is located at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2013/RCRIT-13V069-4312.pdf. The date of initial issue was 8/5/2022. Associate at Clear Lake Nissan committed to run repairs on CVT reprograming & repair of OCS recall to include sensor and seatbelt repair, parts, and labor. Clear Lake Nissan has not attempted to resolve the issue; instead told me they will have to charge me a diagnostic fee of $181 and then parts and labor to do the repair. I asked to speak to a supervisor or manager and was told they will reach out to me via a phone call, but I have yet to receive a call from either a supervisor nor a manager. Please see uploaded files to include a more detailed write up of complaint with specific recall details & explanation of events.

NISSAN 2013 SENTRA HAS A COMPUTER MALFUNCTION. HAVE TO STICK SOMETHING INTO THE GEAR SHIFT IN ORDER TO DRIVE. CAR STUTTERS WHEN PRESSING THE GAS AS IF IT'S SWITCHIBG GEARS. ALSO, THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE MIDDLE SEATBELT I GOT FIXED. SEAT BELT WAS USED ONCE PROPERLY AND HAS BEEN LOCKED EVER SINCE. NISSAN WILL NOT FIX THESE MALFUNCTIONS UNLESS I HAVE A LETTER ABOUT THESE ISSUES. THESE ISSUES ARE KNOWN RECALLS FROM PREVIOUS NISSAN SENTRA OWNERS AS WELL.

I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION REGARDING THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM(OCS) SOFTWARE DEFECT REQUIRING REPROGRAMMING TO DETECT A PASSENGER IN ORDER TO DEPLOY THE AIRBAG IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, AND THE CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM(CRS), IN PARTICULAR THE SEAT BELT BRACKET DEFORMITY ALSO IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT REQUIRING REINFORCEMENT. ON 6/24/16 I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL NISSAN DEALER WHICH INFORMED ME THAT THEY COULD NOT COMPLETE THE RECALL BECAUSE THEY DID NOT HAVE THE REQUIRED PART, THEREFORE IT WOULD HAVE TO BE ORDERED. AS A RESULT MY APPOINTMENT HAS BEEN SET FOR 1 MONTH LATER. I CHECKED WITH ANOTHER NISSAN DEALER CLOSER TO WHERE I WORK AND THEY ALSO CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS NO ETA ON WHEN THE PART WOULD BE AVAILABLE BUT WOULD PLACE ME ON A WAITING LIST AND CONTACT ME WHEN IT BECAME AVAILABLE.

PURCHASED 2013 NISSAN SENTRA IN LATE FEB 2013. WITHIN A FEW WEEKS THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON WHILE I HAD MY WIFE OR MY SON THE CAR. BOTH ARE AROUND 140 POUNDS. I HAVE EVERYTHING RESET/REPROGRAMMED AT THE DEALERSHIP. WORKED FINE FOR A FEW MORE WEEKS, THEN SAME PROBLEM. HAD THE RECALL WORK DONE. WORK FINE FOR ANOTHER FEW WEEKS, THEN SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD THIS BRAND NEW CAR BACK 6 TIMES TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY HAVE DONE EVERYHTING THEY KNOW TO DO. I HAVE PROVIDED VIDEOS TO THEM EACH TIME IT HAPPENS. MOST RECENT TIME (#7) HAPPENED A WEEK OR SO AGO (NO IN AUG 2013). WAS ON ABOUT A 15 MINUTE TRIP WITH MY SON IN THE CAR AND THE LIGHT WAS ON THE ENTIRE TIME. DEALERSHIP ASKED ME TO BRING THE CAR IN TO CHECK THE CODES. NOW, MIRACULOUSLY, THERE ARE NO CODES, SO NISSAN IS TELLING THEM THAT NOTHING IS WRONG WITH MY CAR. MEANWHILE, I CONTINUE TO TAKE VIDEOS OF THE INCIDENTS AS THEY HAPPEN. BUT, NO ONE CAN HELP. NOW IN THE PROCESS OF DEMANDING A NEW CAR FROM THE DEALERSHIP WITH NO MONEY OUT OF MY POCKET SINCE THIS HAPPENED VERY SOON AFTER BUYING. I DOUBT I'LL GET SATISFACTION. FIRST PEOPLE TO BE SUED IF I'M EVER IN AN ACCIDENT AND THAT AIR BAG DOESN'T OPEN WILL BE THE DEALERSHIP AND NISSAN. DO THE RIGHT THING AND STAND BEHIND YOUR PRODUCTS AND TRUST LOYAL CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE ALL THE PROOF NEEDED!
