What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2009 Nissan Titan, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
When driving my fuel gage shows a quarter tank but my tank is empty. Other 2009 Nissan Titans, they have the recall from March 2010. But my vin doesnt have it. Even though im having the exact same issue.
My fuel gauge on my truck does not work properly. When my gauge shows a quarter tank full its completely empty. The reason i know it doesn't is because it died on me in the middle of an intersection and blocked traffic. The gauge still showed a quarter tank of gas. I had it towed to an auto repair shop and they ended up putting a few gallons of fuel in it and then it started. I do see that there is a recall for this exact issue ( campaign # R1010 and NHTSA # 10v-074 )and i would like to have it repaired before any serious accident happens.
Airbags
Reports naming the air-bag system — deployment behaviour, inflators, sensors and warning lights.
From owner reports, verbatim
I received a recall notice for my 2009 Nissan Titan. I have brought the truck to Premier Nissan, 6636 Veterans Blvd., Metairie, LA on multiple occasions to have the work performed without success. I last brought the truck in March 07, 2024, at which time I was told that the airbag emblem needed to be replaced. [XXX] . The part was supposed to be ordered and in within two weeks. I called Premier Nissan several times since March 07, 2024, without resolution. I called today, August 08, 2024, and was told that the dealership records did not even indicate that the part had been ordered. Additionally, to add further insult, I was told that the truck must again be brought in for another inspection despite the fact that it had been inspected and found defective on March 07, 2024. This is unacceptable. Your assistance in resolving this matter is appreciated. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 285,000.
Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE MOUNTAIN I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE. THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD TO BE PUSHED ENTIRELY TO FLOOR TO ENGAGE. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO GET THE TRUCK TO SLOW DOWN. LUCKILY AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS WERE MADE I WAS ABLE TO GET THE TRUCK TO STOP. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO NISSAN TO BE EVALUATED. THEY STATED IT WAS A FAILURE OF THE ABS ACTUATOR AND SAID THEY LOOKED IT UP AND THERE WERE NO RECALLS AT THIS TIME. THE FAILURE OF THIS PART COULD HAVE COST ME MY LIFE.
STARTED AS A METAL DRAGGING NOISE UNDER THE VEHICLE.. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR IN TO MY GARAGE FOR REPAIR.. THEY FOUND THE THE PASSENGER EMERGENCY BRAKE DRUM HAD DECINTAGRATED AND WELDED ITSELF TO REAR BRAKES.. ALSO DRIVERS SIDE WAS ALSO DAMAGED.. GARAGE REPLACED THE TOTAL REAR BRAKE ASSEMBLY DO TO THE DAMAGE FOR FEAR THAT I WAS AT A HIGH RISK FOR A CRASH..

As I backed into a parking spot I proceeded to try to switch from drive to reverse to straighten out and the lever went floppy. I am stuck in drive with the emergency brakes engaged. The wires under the column shifter wore at just the right time to what appears would be the clock spring!!

MY TITAN HAS ONLY 34617 MILES ON IT AND THE POWER STEERING UNIT WENT BAD AND ALSO SENT METAL SHAVINGS INTO THE RACK AND PINION STEERING. I HAVE TO PAY NISSAN $1200.00 DOLLARS TO FIX THE POWER STEERING UNIT AND TRY TO FLUSH OUT THE METAL SHAVINGS.IF THEY CAN'T FLUSH OUT THE SYSTEM ADD ANOTHER $2500.00 TO REPLACE THE RACK AND PINION STEERING ON MY TRUCK. $4000.00 TO FIX MY TRUCK WITH LESS THAN 35000 MILES ON IT. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN TO A VEHICLE WITH LOW MILES AND HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND PAMPERED SINCE I BOUGHT IT.I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF THIS TRUCK AND NISSAN SHOULD HAVE TO FOOT THIS BILL! HELP!!!!

AFTER DRIVING FOR 20 MINUTES WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL PREVIOUSLY ON AND SET AND STILL ON BUT NOT ACTIVATED, I MOMENTARILY APPLIED THE BRAKES AT APPROXIMATELY 45MPH THEN LIFTED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE APPROACHING A RED LIGHT THAT HAD RETURNED GREEN THE TRUCK BEGAN TO RAPIDLY ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN WITHOUT MY ASSISTANCE OF APPLYING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. QUICKLY RECOGNIZING THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION SITUATION I IMMEDIATELY APPLIED THE BRAKES AND WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE TRUCK WITHOUT INCIDENT. I HAVE TAKEN A PHOTO OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WITHIN A FEW MINUTES OF THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION CAPTURING VEHICLE OPERATING CONDITIONS DURING THE INCIDENT. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT COULD RESULT SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. VEHICLE INFORMATION SHOULD BE DOWNLOADED FROM ONBOARD COMPUTERS RIGHT AWAY. PLEASE IDENTIFY WHERE THE DOWNLOAD SHOULD TAKE PLACE. *TR

I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A SERIOUS VIBRATION COMING FROM THE REAR END OF MY 2007 NISSAN TITAN. I THOUGH THAT IT MIGHT BE AN OUT OF BALANCE TIRE. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO FIRESTONE WHERE THEY NOTICED MY PASSENGER SIDE REAR AXLE OUTPUT SEAL WAS LEAKING. I WENT A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND DECODED TO CHECK THE FLUID LEVEL OF MY REAR DIFFERENTIAL AND HAD TO ADD 1 QUART(OUT OF 2 QUARTS). THE DRAIN PLUG IS MAGNETIC AND I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS ALOT OF METAL ATTACHED TO IT. ABOUT A MONTH LATER THE NOISE WAS GETTING MORE PRONOUNCED AND STARTED TO SHAKE THE WHOLE TRUCK. I DECIDED TO TAKE THE TRUCK TO THE NISSAN SERVICE DEPT AND HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLED ME AND I WENT TO SEE THE OUTCOME. HE INFORMED ME THAT MY DRIVESHAFT WAS BINDING DO TO A FAULTY DIFFERENTIAL AND THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO HAVE IT REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. HE THEN TOLD ME THAT THEY REPLACE A DIFFERENTIAL IN THESE TRUCKS AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH AND THAT THE REAR AXLE SEALS ARE PRONE TO GOING OUT. AFTER DISCOVERING TITANTALK.COM I FOUND OUT THAT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM AND THAT NISSAN HASN'T DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD CALL WHEN THE DIFFERENTIAL CAME IN.*TR

THE SEAT FOAM IS POOR QUALITY - THE SEAT FRAME CUT THROUGH THE FOAM AND I CAN NOW FEEL IT ON MY BACK AND BOTTOM SEAT. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY NISSAN REPLACED THE BACK SEAT FOAM TWO OR THREE TIMES DUE TO THE FRAME PUSHING THROUGH THE FOAM. NOW THAT THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND UNLESS I WANT TO SPEND A $1,000+ TO REPLACE THE SEAT I AM STUCK WITH THE PLEASURE OF FEELING THE METAL FRAME PUSHING INTO ME IN WHILE DRIVING VICE THE COMFORT OF THE CUSHIONS THAT SHOULD BE BETWEEN THE SEAT FRAME AND ME. I DOUBT IT IS SAFE TO HAVE SUCH LITTLE CUSHION BETWEEN ME AND THE SEAT FRAME IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT.

HEADLAMP UNIT FAILURE ON THIS VEHICLE. WATER INTRUSION INTO THE UNIT CAUSING MOISTURE BUILDUP WITH RESULTING CLOUDINESS, CALCIUM LIKE ETCHING, AND SPIDER WEB-LIKE CRACKING OF THE PLASTIC LENS. POOR UV SUN BLOCKING ABILITY OF THE PLASTIC LENS TO RETARD YELLOWING & CLOUDING. THESE DEFECTS IN THE HEADLAMP UNIT CONSTRUCTION PRESENT A SAFETY HAZARD ISSUE AT NIGHT AS IT REDUCES THE EFFECTIVENESS AND ABILITY TO PROJECT LIGHT BEAM AT LEVELS NECESSARY FOR CLEAR VISUAL FIELD. THIS VEHICLE HAS INCURRED COMPLETE HEADLAMP UNIT ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENTS TO BOTH DRIVER & PASSENGER SIDES TWICE SINCE VEHICLE PLACED INTO NEW SERVICE IN 2009. IT APPEARS THE CHEAP PLASTIC LENS COVERS USED IN MANUFACTURING IS THE CULPRIT. USE OF GLASS FOR LENS WOULD ELEMINATE THESE PROBLEMS AS GLASS DOES NOT DETERIORATE WITH SUN OR MOISTURE.
