The defect: Open Range R.V. Company (Open Range) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Residential 417RS fifth wheel recreational trailers manufactured April 27, 2012, to March 6, 2014. The flexible gas line for the kitchen slideout section is too short.
The risk: When the kitchen area is expanded, the gas line may be pulled excessively, resulting in a gas leak, increasing the risk of a fire.
The remedy: Highland Ridge will notify owners on behalf of Open Range, and dealers will replace the existing gas line with a longer gas line, free of charge. The recall began on June 29, 2015. Owners may contact Open Range customer service at 1-260-768-7771.

Safety recall
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
