1996 Pontiac Fiero Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

1996 PONTIAC FEIRO V6 GOT IN THE RAIN OR THROUGH A SMALL PUDDLE THIS CAR HYDROPLANES AT LOW SPEEDS 40 MPH VERY BADLY. I'M LUCKY TO BE LIVE. THE FEIRO WAS TOTALED THIS CAR SPUN OUT SO QUICKLY WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY,IT WAS RAINING AN AND MY SPEED WAS 40 MPH I HAD PUT NEW TIRES ON IT NEW CLUTCH KIT AND FOUR WHEEL ALINEMENT THE WEEKEND BEFORE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE FRONT SUSPENSION WAS CHANGED THE NEXT MANUFACTURE YEAR OF WHAT MY CAR YEAR WAS 1996 SO 1997 THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM WITH HYDROPLANING. I HAVE RESEARCHED AN I HAVE TALK TO A LOT OF PEOPLE ON FEIRO FORUMS CONFIRMING THIS TO BE A TERRIBLE PROBLEM AN COULD BE FATAL!

Too few reports in this category for a page of its own — they appear in the full complaint list.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
