1992 Prevost H3-40 Recalls

Safety recall campaigns filed with NHTSA that cover this model year

Recalls apply to specific vehicles, not to every vehicle of a model year. Check your VIN with NHTSA or your manufacturer's dealer to confirm whether a recall affects your vehicle.

Recall campaignsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

Recall campaigns

7 campaigns cover this model year — what the defect is, what it could cause, and what the remedy is

SUSPENSION:FRONT

Feb 9, 2001
637 units potentially affected
The defect: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: COACHES. THE TRANSVERSAL RADIUS ROD ATTACHMENT ASSEMBLY COULD DEVELOP FATIGUE CRACKS AND EVENTUALLY FAIL.
The risk: THIS CONDITION CAN AFFECT THE HANDLING OF THE VEHICLE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL WELD A REINFORCEMENT PLATE ON THE VERTICAL MEMBER OF THE TRANSVERSAL RADIUS ROD ATTACHMENT. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN FEBRUARY 16, 2001. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT PREVOST AT 418-831-5432.

STRUCTURE:FRAME AND MEMBERS

Jun 12, 1997
1,245 units potentially affected
The defect: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRANSIT BUSES. THE REAR SUSPENSION FORWARD RADIUS ROD SUPPORT NEEDS REINFORCEMENT AND THE RADIUS ROD RETAINING BOLTS COULD BECOME LOOSE.
The risk: IF THE ROD SUPPORTS FRACTURED, SEPARATION COULD OCCUR INCREASING THE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE CRASH.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL ADD ADDITIONAL REINFORCEMENT PLATES AND CHECK THE BOLTS FOR TIGHTNESS, AND, IF NECESSARY, RETIGHTEN THESE BOLTS.

PARKING BRAKE:CONVENTIONAL

Jan 3, 1995
2,075 units potentially affected
The defect: THE PARKING BRAKE BUTTON CAN BE HIT ACCIDENTLY ALLOWING THE PARKING BRAKE TO RELEASE.
The risk: UNINTENDED OPERATION OF THE PARKING BRAKE BUTTON CAN ALLOW THE BUS TO ROLL FREELY CAUSING A POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A PROTECTOR OVER THE PARKING BRAKE BUTTON IN ORDER TO PREVENT ACCIDENTAL RELEASE OF THE PARKING BRAKES.

STEERING:LINKAGES:DRAG:LINK:CONNECTION

Oct 5, 1994
324 units potentially affected
The defect: INTERFERENCE OF THE "DRAG LINK" WITH AN ADJUSTING SCREW OF THE LEFT DISC BRAKE SLACK ADJUSTER COULD OCCUR WHEN EXTREME SUSPENSION MOVEMENT IS COMBINED WITH MAXIMUM STEERING ANGLE.
The risk: THE INTERFERENCE MAY AFFECT STEERING CONTROL AND CAN EVENTUALLY CAUSE FAILURE OF THE STEERING DRAG LINK AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE BRAKE SLACK ADJUSTER . IN EITHER CASE, IT MAY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT.
The remedy: THE DRAG LINK ON ALL INVOLVED VEHICLES AND THE STEERING ARM ON CERTAIN VEHICLES WILL BE REPLACED TO ELIMINATE THE INTERFERENCE.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V BATTERY:CABLES

Dec 1, 1993
189 units potentially affected
The defect: BATTERY CABLE MAY CHAFE AGAINST THE BATTERY RACK DAMAGING THE CABLE'S INSULATION WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN ELECTRICAL SHORT.

What a recall is

Safety recall
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
Safety investigation
NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
