2005 Prevost H3-45 Recalls

Safety recall campaigns filed with NHTSA that cover this model year

Recalls apply to specific vehicles, not to every vehicle of a model year. Check your VIN with NHTSA or your manufacturer's dealer to confirm whether a recall affects your vehicle.

Recall campaignsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

Recall campaigns

4 campaigns cover this model year — what the defect is, what it could cause, and what the remedy is

EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY:WHEELCHAIR LIFT/RAMP

Jul 9, 2024
2,653 units potentially affected
The defect: Prevost Car (US) Inc. (Prevost) is recalling certain 2005-2024 X3-45, 2017-2019 and 2021-2023 X3-45 Commuter, 2006-2007, 2014, and 2018 H3-41, 2005-2020 and 2022-2024 H3-45, and 2019 H3-45 VIP buses equipped with a wheelchair lift. The wheelchair platform bridging device may be too steep, which can cause the wheelchair to become unstable. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 403, "Platform Lift Devices" and 404, "Platform Lift Installations."
The risk: An unstable wheelchair increases the risk of injury to lift occupants.
The remedy: Prevost will replace the wheelchair lift bridging device, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed April 25, 2025. Owners may contact Prevost customer service at 1-866-870-2046. Prevost's number for this recall is SR24-26.

EQUIPMENT

Jan 9, 2008
392 units potentially affected
The defect: ON CERTAIN MOTOR COACHES EQUIPPED WITH ZF/ARENS ASTRONIC SHIFT SELECTORS, A CELL PHONE PLACED IN THE PROXIMITY OF THE SHIFTER TOUCH PAD COULD CAUSE THE DISPLAY TO CHANGE FROM 'R' (REVERSE) TO 'D' (DRIVE) SHOULD THE PHONE RECEIVE A CALL.
The risk: THIS INTERFERENCE CAN CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION TO NOT OPERATE OR CAUSE IMPROPER SHIFTING, AS FORWARD GEAR CAN BE ENGAGED FROM NEUTRAL ONLY, IF THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN STOPPED, AND IF THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS BEEN DEPRESSED. IF THE MALFUNCTION OCCURS WHILE 'R' (REVERSE) IS BEING SELECTED, THE SHIFTER MAY POSSIBLY CHANGE TO 'D' (DRIVE), INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The remedy: PREVOST WILL MAIL STICKERS AND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS TO THEIR OWNERS AND WILL ALSO ARRANGE TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE UPGRADED. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 13, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT PREVOST AT 1-418-831-5432.

VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER:MOTOR

Nov 7, 2005
123 units potentially affected
The defect: ON CERTAIN MULTIPLEX MOTOR COACHES, THE WIPER MOTOR THERMAL PROTECTION IS STOPPING THE MOTOR WHEN THE WIPERS ARE FUNCTIONING FOR A LONG TIME IN SECOND SPEED.
The risk: DEPENDING ON THE OCCURRENCE AND WEATHER SITUATION, DRIVER VISIBILITY COULD BE REDUCED, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW WIPER HARNESS AND A NEW MULTIPLEX PROGRAM WILL BE DOWNLOADED IN ALL COACHES. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 23, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT PREVOST AT 1-418-831-2046.

STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS

Mar 23, 2005
943 units potentially affected
The defect: ON CERTAIN MOTOR COACHES AND MOTOR HOMES, THE POWER STEERING HOSE CAN RUB IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND IN THE SPARE TIRE COMPARTMENT WHICH WILL CAUSE A POWER STEERING HOSE BREAK DOWN.
The risk: LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL CAN CAUSE A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE HOSES AND REPLACE THEM IF THERE IS EVIDENCE OF WEAR FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 30, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT PREVOST AT 418-831-5432.

What a recall is

Safety recall
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
Safety investigation
NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Safety investigations

NHTSA inquiries naming this vehicle. An investigation is not a finding of a defect, and it is not a recall.
