The defect: Prevost Car (US) Inc. (Prevost) is recalling certain 2005-2024 X3-45, 2017-2019 and 2021-2023 X3-45 Commuter, 2006-2007, 2014, and 2018 H3-41, 2005-2020 and 2022-2024 H3-45, and 2019 H3-45 VIP buses equipped with a wheelchair lift. The wheelchair platform bridging device may be too steep, which can cause the wheelchair to become unstable. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 403, "Platform Lift Devices" and 404, "Platform Lift Installations."
The risk: An unstable wheelchair increases the risk of injury to lift occupants.
The remedy: Prevost will replace the wheelchair lift bridging device, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed April 25, 2025. Owners may contact Prevost customer service at 1-866-870-2046. Prevost's number for this recall is SR24-26.

The defect: Prevost Car (US) Inc. (Prevost) is recalling certain 2014 and 2018 H3-41, 2013-2024 H3-45, 2012-2024 X3-45, and 2017-2023 X3-45 Commuter vehicles. The red beacon lighting on the Threshold Warning System (TWS) may not be bright enough. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 403, "Platform Lift Systems."
The risk: Beacons that do not provide proper illumination may be less visible to wheelchair lift users, increasing the risk of injury.

The risk: A complete loss of steering would increase the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Prevost has notified owners, and dealers will replace the draglink, free of charge. Prevost issued an interim notification to owners on February 13, 2019. The recall began June 3, 2019. The defect: Prevost Cars, Inc. (Prevost) is recalling certain 2010-2018 H3-41, H3-45, H3-45 VIP, X3-45, X3-45 Commuter, X3-45 VIP, and X3-45 VIP Entertainer vehicles, equipped with certain Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. The risk: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.

The defect: Prevost Cars, Inc. (Prevost) is recalling certain 2008-2018 H3-41, H3-45, H3-45 VIP, X3-45, X3-45 VIP, X3-45 VIP Entertainer, and XL2 motor coaches. The fuel tank cradle supports may have gaps at the points where the cradle connects to the coach frame, which can allow the attachment bolts to loosen and fail causing the fuel tank to fall from the vehicle.
The risk: If the fuel tank separates from the vehicle, it could be a road hazard and the vehicle would stall. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash.

In the affected vehicles, the wires for the Automatic Fire Suppression System (AFSS) Linear Thermal Detector (LTD) may be damaged by temperatures in the engine compartment.
The risk: The damaged wires may activate the AFSS and shutdown the engine, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

The defect: Prevost Cars, Inc. (Prevost) is recalling certain model year 2010-2013 X3-45 and 2010-2014 H3-45 coaches manufactured May 1, 2010, through November 7, 2013, and equipped with Amaya Seats with a seat base that can be raised to accommodate wheel chairs. When the seat bases are raised and lowered they may rub against the seat belt and possibly cause damage to the seat belt.
The risk: A damaged seat belt may fail in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupant.
The remedy: Prevost will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace any damaged seat belts, and change the attachment point at the seat to remove the risk of damage to the seat belt, free of charge. In the affected vehicles, the windshield wiper motor housing may crack resulting in a loss of windshield wiper function.
The risk: Without functioning windshield wipers, the driver's visibility may be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash.

The cold inflation pressure shown on the certification plate is higher than the specification for the super single tires installed on the rear axle, which may lead to tire overinflation. Thus, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Part 567, "Certification Regulation."
The risk: Tire overinflation may reduce traction, braking ability and handling, increasing the the risk of a crash.

The defect: Prevost is recalling certain model year 2008-2013 X3-45, H3-41 and H3-45 coaches, model year 2011-2013 H3-45 VIP coaches, model year 2012-2013 X3-45 VIP coaches, and model year 2009-2013 XLII-45 Entertainer coaches manufactured from May 16, 2007, through March 14, 2013 and equipped with Volvo engines. Certain conditions may cause the affected coaches to go into a software mode that would result in the throttle signal being fixed at 1700rpms regardless of throttle pedal input from the driver.
The risk: Uncontrollable throttle position may lead to a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

The defect: Prevost is recalling certain model year 2013 X3-45 and MTH XLII-45E vehicles, all equipped with Volvo D13 engines and an automatic fire detection and suppression system (AFSS). The AFSS linear thermal detector wire may come in contact with or chafe against its supporting tie cables.
The risk: If the detector wire chafes it may cause the AFSS to activate with no fire present and, as a result, the stop engine feature will be activated, bringing the vehicle to an unplanned stop and increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Prevost will notify owners, and dealers will add a protection cloth to the linear thermal detector wire at the location of tie cable, free of charge. Alternator Front Bearing Failure

NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened a Preliminary Evaluation after reviewing field reports concerning alternator front bearing failures that cause elevated temperatures within the engine compartment, resulting in the fire suppression system (FSS) activating, immediately shutting the engine down, and rendering the bus inoperable.Analysis of the data provided by Prevost Car (US) Inc. showed high failure frequency and thermal events. An immediate shutdown of the bus can increase the risk of a crash or injury of bus occupants. In response to this investigation, Prevost Car (US) Inc. and Volvo Bus Corporation decided to conduct recalls 22V-221 and 22V-222. By submitting Part 573 Defect Information Reports on April 6, 2022, Prevost Car (US) Inc. and Volvo Bus Corporation notified ODI of a safety defect in certain model year (MY) 2010-2023 Prevost H3-45; X3-45; X3-45 Com; H3-45 VIP: X3-45 VIP and 2020 Volvo 9700 vehicles; some of these buses may have experienced thermal events after failure of the alternator front bearing, because the alternator belt continues to turn the alternator after the bearing failure.These recall actions address the safety concern that led to the opening of this investigation.Therefore, with these recall actions, this investigation is closed. The recalls encompass all model and MY vehicles addressed by the investigation. However, the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist in other model or MY vehicles outside of the recall scope. The agency reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.
