What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS. THE SIDE FAIRING HINGE BAR AND MOUNTS CAN DETACH FROM THE FUEL TANK STRAPS. THE HINGE BAR CAN ROTATE AND SEPARATE FROM THE FAIRING, ALLOWING THE HINGE BAR ASSEMBLY TO FALL OFF OF THE VEHICLE.

The risk

THIS COULD CAUSE A ROAD HAZARD, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

The remedy

DEALERS WILL INSTALL AN ADDITIONAL NUT PLATE AND IF THE BRACKET IS CRACKED, THE FUEL TANK STRAP WILL BE REPLACED WITH A NEW STRAP AND BRACKET ASSEMBLY.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
