The defect

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SCOOTERS. DURING FULL COMPRESSION OF THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM, THE FUEL SHUT-OFF VALVE ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE FUEL TANK, WILL COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE ENGINE HOUSING OF THE VEHICLE. THIS CONTACT CAN CAUSE A STRESS CRACK FRACTURE TO THE PETCOCK NIPPLE TO THE FUEL TANK JOINT.

The risk

THIS CONDITION CAN CAUSE A FUEL LEAKAGE. FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, CAN RESULT IN A FIRE.

The remedy

AMERICAN SUNDIRO IS INSTRUCTING OWNERS TO CONTACT AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO HAVE THEIR SCOOTER REPAIRED FREE OF CHARGE.

OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JANUARY 22, 2001. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT AMERICAN SUNDIRO (RENFROE ENGINEERING) AT 1-888-431-5666. ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
