The defect

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS. THE STEERING GEAR FASTENERS WERE INCORRECTLY TIGHTENED AND CAN WORK LOOSE.

The risk

THIS CONDITION COULD RESULT IN A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

The remedy

DEALERS WILL REMOVE, DEGREASE, AND RETORQUE STEERING GEAR MOUNTING BOLTS.

OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN NOVEMBER 27, 2000. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT MACK AT 1-610-709-3011. ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
