The defect
ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE THROTTLE LINKAGE CAN FAIL TO RETURN TO A COMPLETELY CLOSED POSITION.
The risk
SHOULD THIS FAILURE OCCUR, THE MOTORCYCLE COULD FAIL TO DECELERATE WHEN THE RIDER WANTS IT TO, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The remedy
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE THROTTLE RETURN CABLE. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING OCTOBER 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT MOTO GUZZI AT 1-678-238-0902.
Notes
ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
