What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

CERTAIN MOTORHOMES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 135, "BRAKE SYSTEMS." THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) LIGHTS ARE NOT VISIBLE ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OF THE DASH.

The risk

WITHOUT THE ABS INDICATOR LIGHTS TO WARN THE DRIVER THAT THERE IS A FAULT IN THE ABS SYSTEM, THEY MAY NOT BE PREPARED TO REACT PROPERLY TO CURRENT ROAD CONDITIONS AND/OR TRAFFIC FLOW. A CRASH COULD OCCUR WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.

The remedy

DEALERS WILL REWIRE PLUGS TO CORRECT THE SIGNAL FROM THE ABS MODULE AND THE INSTALLATION OF AMBER COLORED LIGHTS TO THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OF THE DASHBOARD. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 23, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT MONACO AT 1-800-685-6545.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
