What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

CERTAIN TRAVEL AND FIFTH WHEEL TRAILERS HAVE IMPROPERLY INSTALLED FURNACE EXHAUST VENTS.

The risk

IMPROPER INSTALLATION OR LACK OF THE FURNACE EXHAUST VENT WILL ALLOW THE EXHAUST FUMES, CONTAINING COMBUSTION PRODUCTS INCLUDING HIGH CONCENTRATIONS OF CARBON MONOXIDE GAS, TO ENTER INTO THE RECREATIONAL VEHICLE AND COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH TO OCCUPANTS OF THE TRAILER.

The remedy

OWNERS/DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FURNACE EXHAUST VENT AND, IF NOT PROPERLY INSTALLED, THE DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE EXHAUST VENT FREE OF CHARGE. OWNERS ARE BEING INSTRUCTED NOT TO USE THE FURNACE UNTIL THE EXHAUST VENT HAS BEEN INSPECTED AND IS PROPERLY REPAIRED. THE RECALL BEGAN FEBRUARY 2, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CROSSROADS AT 260-593-2866.

Notes

CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
