What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

ON CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES, THE SPINDLE PLUGS ON SOME TAG AXLES ARE MISSING. THE BEARINGS AND RELATED SURFACES CAN BE CONTAMINATED WITH DEBRIS.

The risk

DEBRIS COULD MIGRATE INTO THE BEARING OIL CUP, WHICH COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A FIRE.

The remedy

DEALERS WILL INSPECT FOR DATA TAG AND INSTALLATION OF SPINDLE PLUG. MISSING DATA TAG WILL BE INSTALLED, BEARINGS WILL BE CLEANED, INSPECTED, AND IF NECESSARY, REPLACED. THE RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 12, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FORETRAVEL AT 1-800-955-6226.

Notes

CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
