What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

Terex is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Aerial Devices and Digger Derricks manufactured September 2012 through February 2013. The lock valve cavity in the outrigger cylinder may be machined incorrectly and the seals may be damaged.

The risk

Damaged seals may allow the outrigger to drift. If the outrigger cylinder drifts, stability may be affected and the unit may overturn, increasing the risk of injury.

The remedy

Terex will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the affected outriggers to determine if they were machined correctly. The inspection and any necessary repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on May 30, 2013. Owners may contact Terex at 1-605-884-3892. Terex's recall campaign number is SN607.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
