What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

Meritor, Inc. is recalling certain wheel ends for drive axles with ConMet PreSet Plus Hubs manufactured August 2012 and December 2012. Due to a missing locking snap ring on the axle hub, the rear wheels may separate from the vehicle.

The risk

Wheel separation from the vehicle increases the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Meritor will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the affected wheel ends for the lock ring, installing them as needed, free of charge. The safety recall began in June 2014. Owners may contact Meritor at 1-866-668-7221. Meritor's number for this recall is C14AA.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
