The defect
Spartan Motors, Inc. (Spartan) is recalling certain model year 2015 Spartan MM chassis manufactured October 2, 2013, to November 19, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the front sway bar mounting brackets may break, causing the sway bar to detach from the mounting frame.
The risk
If the sway bar detaches, additional vehicle sway may occur, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy
Spartan will notify owners and dealers will replace the front sway bar mounting brackets, free of charge. The recall began on May 15, 2015. Spartan issued an interim notification to owners on March 4, 2015. Owners may contact Spartan customer service at 1-517-543-6400.
Notes
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
