What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

Volvo Bus Corporation (Volvo Bus) is recalling certain 2020 Volvo 9700 DOT vehicles. In the event of the alternator front bearing seizing, the alternator belt may continue to operate, causing the bearing to overheat.

The risk

An overheated alternator bearing can increase the risk of a fire.

The remedy

Volvo Bus will replace the alternator belt, free of charge. Owner notification letters September 30, 2022. Owners may contact Volvo Bus customer service at 1-866-870-2046.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
