The defect
Shred-Tech Corporation (Shred-Tech) is recalling certain 2021-2023 MDS-4-33 shredding trucks. Shredded paper may accumulate in the space between the cutting knives and the bulkhead wall.
The risk
The accumulation of excess shredded paper can compress and overheat, increasing the risk of a fire.
The remedy
Shred-Tech will install a new bulkhead wall, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed out beginning May 1, 2023. Owners may contact Shred-Tech customer service at 1-800-465-3214.
Notes
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
