What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago) is recalling one 2020 Commercial vehicle, equipped with a certain BraunAbility Wheelchair Lift. The outer barrier may deploy unexpectedly. As such, this vehicle fails to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 403, "Platform Lift Systems."

The risk

Unexpected outer barrier deployment may result in the platform not securely retaining the wheelchair, increasing the risk of injury to lift occupants.

The remedy

A dealers will relocate the ground sensing pressure switch, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 31, 2024. Owners may contact Winnebago customer service at 1-641-585-6939 for 1-800-537-1885.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
