What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

Corp. Micro Bird, Inc. (Micro Bird) is recalling certain 2022-2024 T-Series school buses equipped with a anti-vandal lock on the rear emergency door. The ignition interlock may allow the vehicle to start when the rear emergency door is locked after the key has been inserted in the ignition. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 217, "Bus Emergency Exits and Window Retention and Release."

The risk

An emergency exit door that is locked can prevent or delay occupants from exiting the vehicle during an emergency, increasing the risk of injury.

The remedy

Dealers will repair the ignition interlock connection, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 30, 2024. Owners may contact Micro Bird customer service at 1-819-477-2012. Microbird's number for this recall is 24-112-IUS.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to nhtsa.gov.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
