MANFD 1-1 1960 THRU 7-31 1962.POSSIBILITY THAT INDUCTION HARDENING PROCESS INEFFECT AT NORTH AMERICAN ROCKWELL'S AXLE PLANT MAY HAVE CREATED HIGH RESIDUALSTRESSES AT INNER BEARING SHOULDER AREA.THESE STRESSES MAY TURN INTO PHYSICALCRACKS UNDER EXTENDED FIELD SERVICE.CONTINUED USE OF AXLE AFTER CRACKING MAYCAUSE AXLE SPINDLE TO FRACTURE.(CORRECT BY INSPECTING AND REPLACING WITH NEWAXLE.)
