What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

ON THE INVOLVED VEHICLES, THE WORD "FUEL" IS MISSING FROM THE LABEL FOR THE FUEL TANK SHUT-OFF VALVE. THIS CONSTITUTES A NON-COMPLIANCE TO FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 123, "MOTORCYCLE CONTROLS AND DISPLAYS". DUE TO THIS OMISSION, THE OPERATOR MAY BE UNABLE TO LOCATE THE SHUT-OFF VALVE TO STOP THE FLOW OF FUEL FROM THE TANK.

The remedy

OWNER WILL BE SENT THE PROPER IDENTIFICATION LABEL. THIS MAY BE INSTALLED BY THE OWNER OR BY THE DEALER, IF PREFERRED.

Notes

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOPEDS.SYSTEM: EQUIPMENT; CERTIFICATION LABELS.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: IN THE EVENT OF A FUEL LEAK, IF THE OPERATOR CANNOTLOCATE THE SHUT-OFF VALVE AND AN IGNITION SOURCE IS PRESENT, A FIRE COULDIGNITE AND PERSONAL INJURY COULD RESULT.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
