The defect
ON THE INVOLVED VEHICLES, THE INCORRECT FUEL HOSE PIPE WAS INSTALLED. CONSEQUENTLY, THE NEEDED SPECIAL REINFORCEMENT, USED TO HELP PREVENT RUPTURE OF THE HOSE AND SPILLAGE OF FUEL RESULTING FROM AN IMPACT FROM THE SIDE, WAS OMITTED. THIS WOULD CONSTITUTE A NON-COMPLIANCE WITH FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 310, "FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY".
The remedy
DEALER WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, INSTALL THE CORRECT FUEL HOSE WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER.
Notes
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES.SYSTEM: FUEL; FUEL HOSE.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, IF AN IGNITION SOURCE ISPRESENT, A VEHICLE FIRE AND SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY COULD OCCUR.
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
