What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

THE INVOLVED VEHICLES WERE MANUFACTURED USING A STANDARD TYPE NUT TO FASTEN THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE STEERING COLUMN. THIS NUT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN TIGHTENED TO SPECIFICATIONS AND MAY BACK OFF THE STEERING COLUMN AS A RESULT. THIS WILL ALLOW THE STEERING WHEEL TO DISENGAGE FROM THE COLUMN.

The remedy

DEALER WILL REPLACE THE STANDARD NUT WITH A SELF-LOCKING NUT THAT WILL BE TIGHTENED TO SPECIFICATIONS, WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER.

Notes

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRACTORS.SYSTEM: STEERING; STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN ASSEMBLY.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: SHOULD SEPARATION OCCUR DURING VEHICLE OPERATION, LOSSOF VEHICLE CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT COULD RESULT.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
