DEALER WILL REPLACE EXISTING CONSOLE WITH ONE THAT CONTAINS A LID LATCHING MECHANISM, WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES.SYSTEM: INTERIOR; LATCHING MECHANISMS.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: THE INVOLVED VEHICLES ARE IN NON-COMPLIANCE WITHFEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 201, "OCCUPANT PROTECTION IN INTERIOR IMPACTS", DUE TO FAILURE OF THE CONSOLES TO CONTAIN LATCHING MECHANISMS THAT ENSURE THAT THE LIDS STAY CLOSED IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION OR A VEHICLE ROLLOVER.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, OR ROLLOVER, THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS COULD BE INJURED FROM IMPACT WITH THE OPEN LID.
