What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

THE ENGINE COOLING FAN BLADES MAY CRACK AND CHIP DUE TO HIGH STRESSES CAUSED BY VIBRATIONS. THE CHIPPED PIECES OF THE BLADE COULD FLY INTO THE UNDERHOOD COMPONENTS. ALSO, THESE PIECES COULD FLY OUT FROM THE VEHICLE IF THE HOOD IS OPEN AND THE ENGINE IS RUNNING.

The remedy

THE DEALER WILL REPLACE THE EXISTING FAN BLADE ASSEMBLY WITH ONE OF ANOTHER DESIGN AT NO COST TO OWNER.

Notes

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: HEAVY TRUCKS.SYSTEM: ENGINE COOLING; FANS.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: THE BLADE FRAGMENTS COULD CAUSE ENGINE DAMAGE AND, IFHOOD IS OPEN, SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY TO NEARBY PERSONS.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
