What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

THE BLOWER MOTOR MOUNTING BRACKETS ON THE INVOLVED VEHICLES MAY DEFORM DURING INSTALLATION. IF THE BRACKETS ARE DEFORMED, THE BLOWER WHEEL MAY RUB AGAINST THE BLOWER HOUSING CAUSING AN UNUSUAL STARTING LOAD ON THE MOTOR AND A RESULTING INCREASE IN ELECTRICAL CURRENT WHICH CAN CAUSE THE MOTOR TO STALL. THE SURGE OF ELECTRICAL CURRENT CAN CAUSE THE RESISTOR, WHICH IS PART OF THE LOAD, TO OVERHEAT AND POSSIBLY EXPLODE.

The remedy

DEALER WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE ANY DEFORMED MOUNTING BRACKETS. THE BRACKET INSTALLATION WILL BE CHECKED TO ENSURE THAT IT DOES NOT CONTACT THE BLOWER WHEEL.

Notes

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRANSIT BUSES.SYSTEM: AIR CONDITIONER; BLOWER MOTOR.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: A FIRE COULD RESULT CAUSING VEHICLE DAMAGE AND SERIOUSPERSONAL INJURY.NOTE: THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM SHOULD NOT BE OPERATED UNDER ANYCIRCUMSTANCES UNTIL THE DEFECT IS REMEDIED.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
