NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

DUE TO THE LENGTH OF THE WIRES, THE WIRING HARNESS COULD BE PULLED AGAINST THE FRAME HEAD TUBE DURING FULL RIGHT STEERING. IF THE HANDLE BARS ARE REPEATEDLY TURNED RAPIDLY AND FULLY TO THE RIGHT, THE REPEATED BENDING AND TENSION MAY LEAD TO DAMAGE OR DISCONNECTION OF WIRES IN THE HARNESS.

The remedy

DEALER WILL INSTALL A WIRING HARNESS EXTENSION FREE OF CHARGE.

Notes

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOTORCYCLES.SYSTEM: ELECTRICAL; WIRING HARNESS.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: DAMAGED OR DISCONNECTED WIRING COULD CAUSE LOSS OF TURNSIGNAL, TAILLIGHTS, AND HEADLIGHTS. THIS WOULD CREATE AN UNSAFE RIDINGCONDITION THAT COULD CONTRIBUTE TO AN ACCIDENT.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
