The defect

THE "CLAMSHELL" SEAT CONSTRUCTION FAILS TO CONFORM TO FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 222, "SCHOOL BUS SEATING AND CRASH PROTECTION". THE SEATS ARE NOT SOFT ENOUGH TO PROVIDE THE REQUIRED SURFACE CONTACT.

The remedy

ADDITIONAL MATERIAL WILL BE ADDED TO THE HEAD AREA OF THE SEATS TO INCREASE THE DEGREE OF SURFACE CONTACT.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SCHOOL BUSES EQUIPPED WITH "CLAMSHELL" SEAT CONSTRUCTION.SYSTEM: INTERIOR; SEAT CONSTRUCTION.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, THE DESIGN OF THE SEATS,IN COMBINATION WITH THE FORCE OF THE IMPACT, COULD RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY TOVEHICLE PASSENGERS.
