The defect
VEHICLES MAY NOT CONFORM TO FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 217, "BUS WINDOW RETENTION AND RELEASE". CERTAIN VEHICLES MAY HAVE GONE THROUGH PRODUCTION WITHOUT THE DEACTIVATION OF THE KEY LOCK IN THE REAR DOOR.
The remedy
DEALER WILL INSTALL A SHEET METAL SCREW IN THE REAR EMERGENCY DOOR LOCKING MECHANISM.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SCHOOL BUSES.SYSTEM: STRUCTURE; REAR EMERGENCY DOOR LOCK.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: THIS WOULD ALLOW THE ENGINE TO BE STARTED WITH THEIGNITION SWITCH WHEN THE REAR EMERGENCY DOOR WAS LOCKED. IF THE DOOR WAS LOCKEDDURING VEHICLE OPERATION, PASSENGERS COULD NOT EXIT QUICKLY AND SAFELY IN CASEOF EMERGENCY AND SERIOUS INJURIES COULD RESULT.
