What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

THE INVOLVED TRUCKS MAY HAVE BEEN ASSEMBLED WITHOUT THE INSTALLATION OF A SINGLE CHECK VALVE. THIS FAILS TO COMPLY WITH FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 121, "AIR BRAKE SYSTEMS". IN THE EVENT OF A SINGLE FAILURE IN THE REAR AIR SYSTEM, THE LACK OF A CHECK VALVE WOULD ALLOW SIMULTANEOUS LOSS OF AIR FROM BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKING SYSTEMS.

The remedy

DEALER WILL INSTALL A SINGLE CHECK VALVE, IF NECESSARY, WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER.

Notes

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRUCKS.SYSTEM: SERVICE BRAKES; AIRBRAKES.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: DEGRADED BRAKING CAPABILITY COULD RESULT IN LOSS OFVEHICLE CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
