The defect
THE HAND VALVE INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE MAY HAVE BEEN INCORRECTLY POSITIONED. THIS WOULD ALLOW AIR TO ESCAPE FROM BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR SERVICE SYSTEMS SIMULTANEOUSLY IF THE CONTROL LINE TO THE REAR AXLE RELAY VALVES SHOULD FAIL. PERFORMANCE OF FRONT AND REAR SERVICE BRAKES DURING FAILURE COULD BE DEGRADED.
The remedy
THE HAND VALVE WILL BE REPOSITIONED BY THE DEALER, IF NECESSARY, AT NO CHARGE OWNER.
Notes
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRUCKS.SYSTEM: SERVICE BRAKES; HAND VALVE.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: PARTIAL LOSS OF BRAKING CAPABILITY COULD RESULT IN LOSSOF VEHICLE CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT.
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
