The defect

FUEL SYSTEM ON THE SUSPECT VEHICLES MAY NOT COMPLY WITH FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 301, "FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY". THESE VEHICLES WERE MANUFACTURED WITHOUT PROJECTILE FUEL TANK SHIELDS.

The remedy

THE DEALER WILL INSPECT AND INSTALL A PROTECTIVE FUEL TANK SHIELD WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: LIGHT TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH 19 GALLON MID-SHIP FUEL TANKSAND TWO-PIECE DRIVE SHAFTS.SYSTEM: STRUCTURE; FUEL TANK SHIELDS.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: IN THE EVENT OF A FRONTAL IMPACT, EXCESSIVE FUELSPILLAGE MAY RESULT. IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, A VEHICLE FIRE ANDPASSENGER INJURY COULD OCCUR.
