The defect

THE SEAT FRAMES USED WERE NOT MANUFACTURED ACCORDING TO SPECIFICATIONS. THE TUBING MAY WEAKEN AND BEND IN AN ACCIDENT, IF IMPACTED FROM THE REAR. SEATS FAILED TO MEET THE IMPACT ENERGY REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD 222, "SCHOOL BUS PASSENGER SEATING AND CRASH PROTECTION".

The remedy

THE DEALER WILL STRENGTHEN EXISTING FRAMES OR INSTALL NEW SEAT FRAMES AT NO CHARGE.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SCHOOL BUSES.SYSTEM: INTERIOR; SEAT FRAMES.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: SEAT FRAMES, IF CONTACTED FROM THE REAR DURING ANACCIDENT OR SUDDEN STOP, COULD BEND FORWARD MORE EASILY THAN THEY SHOULD ANDCOULD INCREASE POTENTIAL FOR OCCUPANT INJURY. THE FAILURE CAN OCCUR ONLY UNDERSEVERE CONDITIONS.
