What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

DUE TO THE SUBSTITUTION OF A SPACER FOR A RETAINER ON THE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY, THE SPACER COULD BREAK ALLOWING THE STEERING WHEEL TO SEPARATE FROM THE MOUNTING HUB.

The risk

SEPARATION OF THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE THE TRUCK ISMOVING, STEERING CONTROL WOULD BE LOST AND A CRASH COULD RESULT.

The remedy

INSTALL RETAINER IN PLACE OF SPACER.

Notes

SYSTEM: STEERING WHEEL.VEHICLE CATAGORY: HEAVY TRUCKS/BUSES.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
