The defect
FUEL TANK MOUNTING STRAPS MAY ALLOW MINOR AMOUNT OF SHIFTING BY FUEL TANK IN A REAR END CRASH WITH FUEL LEAKAGE IN EXCESS OF AMOUNT ALLOWED BY STANDARD.
The risk
VEHICLES WOULD NOT MEET REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS 301; IN THEPRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, FUEL LEAKAGE COULD RESULT IN A VEHICULAR FIRE.
The remedy
RETROFIT VEHICLES WITH FUEL MOUNTING STRAPS OF ORIGINAL DESIGN.
