The defect
THE WEBBED BELT RETRACTORS USED TO SECURE A WHEEL CHAIR IN THE BUS FAIL WHEN THE PLASTIC RETRACTOR COVER SEPARATES ALLOWING THE COVER TO OPEN. THIS CAN ALLOW THE INTERNAL RETRACTOR SPRING TO RELEASE OUT OF THE RETRACTOR.
The risk
THE RETRACTOR COULD FAIL TO HOLD AN OCCUPANT IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.
The remedy
DEALERS WILL RETROFIT THE WHEEL CHAIR SECUREMENT RETRACTORS.
