What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

THE FUEL HOSE TO THE FUEL FILTER IS ROUTED TOO CLOSE TO THE ALTERNATOR BELT CAUSING THE ALTERNATOR BELT TO RUB THE FUEL HOSE. THIS CAN CAUSE A FUEL LEAK.

The risk

FUEL LEAKAGE CAN RESULT IN A VEHICLE FIRE IF AN IGNITION SOURCE IS PRESENT.

The remedy

DEALERS WILL STRAP THE FUEL HOSE TO THE CHASSIS FRAME TO INSURE A MINIMUM OF 2 1/2" CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE FUEL HOSE AND THE ALTERNATOR BELT.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
