The defect

EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION: TRAILER AXLE ASSEMBLIES FOR HEAVY DUTY TRUCK TRAILERS. THE GREASE LUBRICATION VOLUME LEVEL SPECIFIED FOR THESE TRAILER AXLES IS INSUFFICIENT TO PROVIDE PROPER LUBRICATION TO THE OUTER WHEEL END BEARING ASSEMBLY.

The risk

THIS CONDITION CAN CAUSE FAILURE OF THE WHEEL BEARING SYSTEM RESULTING IN WHEEL END BURN UP OR LOSS OF WHEEL END EQUIPMENT.

The remedy

DEALERS WILL INSPECT THESE TRAILER AXLES AND ADD LUBRICANT IF NECESSARY.

OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN DECEMBER 8, 1997.
