What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: ALUMINUM WALK-IN VANS BUILT ON GM P30 CLASSIC CHASSIS. INADEQUATE CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT AND THE FLOOR PLANK OF THE BODY CAN CAUSE THE FUEL LINES AND/OR SENDING UNIT TO RUB AGAINST THE FLOOR STRUCTURE WHEN THE FLOOR DEFLECTS UNDER LOAD OR THE FUEL TANK EXPANDS.

The risk

THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE DAMAGE OVER AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME TO THE FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT AND/OR FUEL LINES AND CAUSE FUEL LEAKAGE. IF AN IGNITION SOURCE WAS PRESENT, FIRE COULD RESULT.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
