The defect

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH DUAL STEERING. THE STEERING COLUMN WELDS ON THESE VEHICLES CAN FRACTURE, ALLOWING THE STEERING COLUMN TO SEPARATE.

The risk

A COMPLETE LOSS OF VEHICLE STEERING ON THE AFFECTED SIDE COULD OCCUR.

The remedy

DEALERS WILL REPLACE THESE STEERING COLUMNS.

OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JULY 17, 1999. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT FREIGHTLINER AT 1-800-547-0712.
