1998 Regency Ford F150 Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1998 Regency Ford F150, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

MY TRUCK HAD BEEN FIXED AND INSPECTED UNDER A RECALL FOR THE FUEL TANK STRAPS. IMMEDIATELY AFTER FILLING MY FUEL TANK FOR THE FIRST TIME AFTER THE REPAIR GASOLINE START LEAKING OUT OF THE TANK. TOOK THE TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS INFORMED THAT MY FUEL TANK WAS CORRODED AND NEEDED REPLACED BUT THAT IT WOULDN'T BE COVERED AS PART OF THE RECALL. WHY WAS I NOT EVEN INFORMED OF THE CONDITION OF MY FUEL TANK WHEN MY TRUCK HAD JUST BEEN SERVICED AND INSPECTED? PRIOR TO THE DEALERSHIP REPLACING MY FUEL TANK STRAPS I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH ANY PART OF MY FUEL SYSTEM. *TR

I JUST GOT THIS TRUCK & WAS GOING TO GET IT LEGAL MADE IT THERE & EVERYTHING WAS FINE, ON THE WAY HOME WHEN I GOT TO 40MPH IT STARTS JUMPING & DOESN'T STOP UNTIL I GET TO 55MPH. I WENT TO SLOW DOWN FOR ROADWORK & I HAVE NO BREAKS, I PULLED OFF CHECKED FLUID ALL'S GOOD, GET BACK IN BREAKS WORK, I GO TO PULL IN MY DRIVEWAY & NO BREAKS AGAIN. I WILL MENTION WHEN I FIRST PUT ON THE A/C I COULD SMELL ANTIFREEZE BUT THAT EVENTUALLY WENT AWAY

VEHICLE WAS IDLING IN PARK WITH THE E'BRAKE APPLIED, WHILE I WALKED TO MY MAILBOX... THE VEHICLE ROLLED ABOUT TEN FEET FLAT, THEN ROLLED ABOUT 30' DOWN A SLIGHT INCLINE , WITH THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE HITTING A TREE, BRINGING IT TO A STOP. THE TAILGATE AND BUMPER ARE DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR. IT IS DIFFICULT TO GET THE VEHICLE TO HOLD IN PARK POSITION SINCE THIS HAPPENED. IT SEEMS TO NOT GO IN ALL THE WAY. I DO NOT SEE ANY RECALL FOR THIS VIN .. BUT I DO SEE SOME COMMENTS ONLINE REGARDING SIMILAR INCIDENTS. *TR

WELL I THOUGHT IT WAS SMALL BUT THE INSURANCE COMPANY "TOTALED" MY TRUCK NOW I HAVE NO TRANSPORTATION. *TR

THE SPARE TIRE HOIST CABLE FAILED. THE SPARE FELL OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THE PICKUP BED. THERE WAS NO RUST ON THE CABLE. IT APPEARS THAT THE FAILURE WAS ALL AT ONCE. IT DID NOT RUB OR WEAR AGAINST SOMETHING. THE CABLE BROKE IN ONE SPOT, JUST INSIDE THE PRESSED OR CRIMPED END. THERE WAS NO WAY TO INSPECT OR NOTICE AN IMMANENT FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS IN OUR COMPANY YARD TRAVELLING AT 5 TO 10 MPH. THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN POTENTIALLY DEADLY TO ANOTHER MOTORIST OR PEDESTRIAN HAD IT FAILED AT HIGH SPEED.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
