Power Products Axle Missing Locking Ring
On April 27, 2012, Reinke Manufacturing Company, Inc. (Reinke) notified the NHTSA that it had decided a defect exists in certain 2010-2013 intermodal chassis frames. On certain chassis frames, the locking ring that secures the spindle nut is missing from the axle or is improperly installed and the spindle nuts may be not be properly torqued. These conditions could lead to wheel separation which could cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle. Also, detached dual wheels may enter the roadway increasing the risk of a crash.NHTSA assigned recall number 12V-175 to this matter. Reinke identified Power Products World Wide Heavy Duty (Power Products) as the manufacturer of these defective axles. On June 7, 2012, the Recall Management Division (RMD) mailed an Information Request (IR) letter to Power Products requesting a list of purchasers that might have also received these defective axles. On June 18, 2012, Power Products responded with a written letter noting that Reinke was the only purchaser of these defective axles. All vehicles that could have been impacted by these defective Power Products axles have been addressed through Reinke's 12V-175 safety recall. This EQ is closed.
