2020 Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2020 Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

From owner reports, verbatim

This motorcycle seems to have a fairly common problem of the engine cutting off at random times. Many people are experiencing it, its been happening for 4 years, and nobody on the tech forums has been able to figure it out. (This Continental GT 650 is the exact same motorcycle as the Interceptor 650, only differences are the handle bars, foot pegs and fuel tank shape). Some people experience a complete loss of power, while some people experience just the engine shutting down. The shut down happens either at standstill or while moving, usually when given throttle. This problem has been happening since Day 1 of ownership, and mine currently has less than 1,100 miles on it. The engine has shut down on me while driving pretty much every single time I ride it (usually after it warms up), many times in rush hour traffic, which is a major safety issue. Luckily it has not shut down on the freeway, which would be super dangerous. If you look online, you'll see that many people are experiencing the exact same issue.
