2004 Safari Coach Trek Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2004 Safari Coach Trek, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 SAFARI TREK. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE ABS WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE CONTACT NOTICED A BURNING SMELL COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND THEY STATED THAT THE BRAKE CALIPERS OVERHEATED AND LOCKED. THE BRAKE LINE AND ABS SENSOR MELTED AND THE ROTORS WERE WARPED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 30,000.

MY 2004 SAFARI TREK MOTORHOME BUILT ON A WORKHORSE W20 CHASSIS HAS A PROBLEM IN THAT THE ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENT PANEL SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING. WORKHORSE CLAIMS THAT IT IS NORMAL OPERATION. WHILE DRIVING THE INSTRUMENT PANEL (IP) SHUTS DOWN COMPLETELY AND THEN TURNS BACK ON. IT ACTS EXACTLY LIKE YOU TURNED OFF THE IGNITION KEY AND THEN TURNED IT BACK ON. ALL OF THE ALARM GO OFF AND IT SCARES THE DRIVER TO THE POINT YOU LOSE CONCENTRATION OF THE ROAD. THE IP HAS BEEN REPLACED MORE THAN ONCE AND NOW COMPLAINTS TO WORKHORSE ARE ANSWERED BY SAYING "IT IS NORMAL OPERATION". HOW MANY ACCIDENTS HAVE TO HAPPEN BEFORE ACTION IS TAKEN TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. AT A RECENT WORKHORSE PRESENTATION AT A MOTORHOME RALLY EVERY OWNER OF A 2004 AND UP W20 CHASSIS INDICATED THAT THEY HAVE EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD THE PROBLEM OCCUR AT LEAST 15 TIMES IN THE TWO AND A HALF YEARS I'VE OWNED THE MOTORHOME. *NM
