2006 Saturn Vue Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2006 Saturn Vue, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

The key can be removed from the vehicle while being driven. Also the ignition doesn't "click" off when vehicle is parked and key is removed causing the battery to drain. There have been several recalls for this issue but not with the 2006 year model. This is a dangerous problem and there are very limited resources to get it resolved.

ignition gets stuck with key and locks steering wheel, now it wont shut off all the way to left and kills my battery looks like there has been MANY ignition issues and recalls with saturns which this is pretty important to have working to drive and be safe esp as a female in this world ..getting stuck or with a dead battery isnt good $300-400 at a gmc to fix this issue I feel personally this should be considered a recall fix

My car is very rusted out, underneath the body and no one will work on my car because they feel it's a hazard to drive and work on. I went to an iron works shop and mechanic said it's a common problem with Saturn Vue's,I took it back to where I bought it because they knew it before I bought it . ON MY 2006 SATURN VUE I HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FRONT BREAKING SYSTEM. PLUS THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE BREAKING SYSTEM WITH LESS THAN 44,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM THAT THERE NO WARNING SYSTEM ON IT AT ALL. THE VEHICLE JUST STOP AND WOULD NOT GO AT ALL. IT JUST STOP DEAD. LUCKILY I WAS NOT ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THIS HAPPEN, BECAUSE I WAS JUST GOING AND IT JUST STOP COMPLETE AND WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL. TO ME THAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE TO ME. I FOUND OUT THAT THEY KNOW ABOUT THESE ISSUE WITH THE BREAKING SYSTEM DO NOT WANT TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THEM EITHER. THAT IT INVOLVES VEHICLES FROM 2004 -2009. BECAUSE OF THEM USING CHEAPER PRODUCTS.

THIS HAPPEN ON 2 DIFFERENT DATE. THE FIRST THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AT ONLY 39,111 MILES ON VEHICLE ON 8/14/2018. THEN THE THING THAT HAPPEN IS THE VEHICLE JUST STOPPED AND WOULD NOT GO AT ALL. ENGINE WOULD RUN BUT WOULD MOVE UNTIL IT COOLED OFF THEN IT DID IT AGAIN AND THE PROBLEM WAS THE ENTIRE FRONT BREAKING SYSTEM HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF FAULTY PRODUCTS USED. BRAKE ROTORS, BRAKE CALIPERS, HOSES AND ALL FLUIDS. THE THAT DID NOT WORK TOOK ANOTHER 2 WEEKS FOR THEM REDO THEM AGAIN BECAUSE ON GOING PROBLEMS HAS BEEN GOING WITH 2004-2009 SATURN'S. WHICH COST ME AROUND $1214.59.

WHILE DRIVE SOUTHBOUND IN THE MIDDLE LANE ON I-95 DURING MORNING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. I NOTICED A SLIGHT SHAKE IN THE STEERING FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 SECONDS BEFORE MY VEHICLE STARTED TO FISHTAIL TOWARDS THE LEFT AND RIGHT WITH TRACTOR TRAILERS ON BOTH SIDES OF ME. MY IGNITION SWITCH GETS STUCK WHILE PARKED AND I'VE BEEN LOCKED OUT IF MY CAR SEVERAL TIMES. THERE ARE TIMES WHERE IT WON'T TURN AT ALL AND I HAVE TO LOCK THE STEERING WHEEL AND TRY TO JIGGY THE KEY FOREVER. THE KEY DOESN'T TURN ALL THE WAY TO THE OFF SWITCH AND THE KEY CAN BE REMOVED WHILE DRIVING. NOW MY PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WON'T UP. I USE THE KEY TO UNLOCK THE DOOR AND THE THING POPS UP BUT THE DOOR WON'T OPEN AND SINCE I ONLY HAVE ONE DOOR WITH A KEY HOLE ALL THE OTHER DOORS STAY LOCKED AS WELL. SO I'VE SPENT HUNDREDS ON LOCKSMITHS OR I HAVE TO KEEP PULLING THE HANDLE OR BANGING ON THE DOOR OR MY HUSBAND PUSHES THE DOOR AN SHAKES THE ENTIRE CAR. THIS IS EMBARRASSING AND FRUSTRATING AS WELL AS DANGEROUS SINCE J CAN'T LOCK MY DOORS. SOMETIMES WHEN I LEAVE THE DOORS UNLOCKED THEY LOCK ON THEIR OWN AFTER I WALK AWAY. I HAVE TO CRAWL THROUGH THE PASSENGERS SIDE DOOR TO GET IN WHEN THE DRIVERS DOOR WON'T OPEN. THIS CAR HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN!

I AM THE OWNER OF A 2006, 6 CYLINDER SATURN VUE. JAN 2011 I TOOK MY CAR TO AN AUTHORIZED SATURN DEALER. LANNAN CHEVROLET IN LOWELL, MA BECAUSE THE COOLANT LIGHT WAS ON. THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC AND SAID THE COOLANT HAD TO BE FLUSHED, I GOT THIS DONE AT THE DEALERSHIP. AUGUST 11, 2011 I WAS COMING OUT OF BOSTON AND AT A FEW RED LIGHTS THE ENGINE DIDN'T SEEM TO WANT TO GO. AS I WAS EXITING THE TUNNEL GOING ONTO THE ZACOME BRIDGE MY CAR JUST LOST ALL POWER AND DIED IN THE HIGH SPEED LANE, I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 60 MILES PER HOUR. I HAD TO PUT ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND CALL 911. I WAS TOLD TO STAY IN MY CAR AND KEEP THE LIGHTS ON. PEOPLE WERE BEEPING AND I WAS SCARED I WOULD DIE FROM BEING HIT. THE POLICE OFFICER ARRIVED AND TOLD ME I HAD TO MOVE THE CAR FROM THE SPEED LANE TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE. HE KEPT TELLING ME SHUT OFF AND START IT AGAIN, SHUT IT OFF AND START IT AGAIN, AFTER 5 ATTEMPTS I WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE CAR TO THE RIGHT LANE BEFORE IT FINALLY DIED. THEY COULD NOT GET THE CAR ON THE FLATBED BECAUSE THE IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS THE IGNITION TURNED AND THE CAR WAS TOWED TO SOUTH BOSTON STATE POLICE BARRACKS. FROM THERE I HAD TO GET A TOW TO SOMEPLACE LOCALLY AS THIS WAS AN EMERGENCY TOW. I FINALLY HAD THE CAR TOWED TO LANNAN CHEVROLET IN LOWELL WHERE I WAS TOLD THE FOLLOWING DAY THE TRANSMISSION WAS GONE. I CALLED STAURN CUSTOMER SERVICE AND FILED A CLAIM. THE CAR HAS 53,076 MILES ON IT AND THE TRANSMISSION WENT WITHOUT WARNING. THE DISTRICT MANAGER OF LANNAN CHEVROLET SAID "I MUST HAVE ABUSED THE CAR AND REVVED IT" I WAS TOLD SHE TOLD THE SERVICE MANAGER DARYL THAT SHE DIDN'T WANT TO HEAR ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT MY VEHICLE. SATURN CUSTOMER SERVICE TOLD ME THE CLAIM WOULD BE ESCALATED TO THE "NEXT LEVEL" AND THEY NEVER HEARD OF ANY TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. UPON LOOKING UP THE VEHICLE ON THE WEB I HAVE FOUND THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS FORM SATURN OWNERS CONCERNING THE TRANSMISSION AND A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT. GM? *KB

THE SATURN DEALERSHIP REPLACED AND END CLIP THE FIRST TIME AND THE SHIFTER CABLE THE SECOND TIME. THE AIR BAG LIGHT ON THE DASH CAME ON AND WENT OFF FOR SEVERAL WEEKS AND WHEN THIS WOULD HAPPEN, THE AIR BAG STATED IT WAS NOT ON EVEN WHEN SOMEONE WAS SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. I TOOK IT THE GM DEALER IN MY AREA AND WAS TOLD THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR AND PASSENGER SIDE HEATER SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM ONLINE, I FOUND SEVERAL REPORTS ON VARIOUS WEBSITES OF THIS EXACT PROBLEM OCCURRING IN THIS SAME MAKE/MODEL OF VEHICLE REGARDING THE AIR BAG SENSOR/SEAT HEATER SENSOR. WHEN THE DEALER WAS ASKED ABOUT THIS CONCERN/REPAIR, WE WERE TOLD IT WAS NOT A COMMON OCCURRENCE, EVEN THOUGH ONLINE REPORTS STATED DIFFERENTLY. MY QUESTION IS THAT SINCE THIS SEEMS TO BE A REPETITIVE PROBLEM OF THE EXACT SAME NATURE WITH THIS VEHICLE MAKE/MODEL AND YEAR, WHY DID GM NOT SUBMIT A RECALL FOR THIS SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN REGARDING THE AIR BAG ISSUE? ..UPDATED 04/25/13 *BF
