Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE: THE MOTOR VEHICLE IS UNDER BASIC MANUFACTURER ORIGINAL WARRANTY. THE KEY INSIDE THE REMOTE IS NOT CORRECT FOR THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION, AS CONFIRMED BY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER. THE DEFECT SUBSTANTIALLY IMPAIRS THE NORMAL OPERATION OF THE MOTOR VEHICLE, CREATES A SUBSTANTIAL RISK, AND PLACES OUR HEALTH AND WELFARE IN SERIOUS JEOPARDY. PROVIDED THE DEALERSHIP WITH REASONABLE OPPORTUNITIES TO REPAIR THE DEFECT(S). HOWEVER, THIS GOOD FAITH EFFORT WAS TO NO AVAIL. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED OF FAILURE, BUT REFUSES TO CORRECT. I REASONABLY BELIEVE OUR SAFETY IS COMPROMISED WITHOUT APPROPRIATE CORRECTION. DEALERSHIP FAILED TO MEET MY REASONABLE EXPECTATIONS UNDER THE LAW.

THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE THING FOR ME I AM A SECURITY OFFICER AND FIND MYSELF IN AREAS THAT I NEED TO GET OUT OF AND CAN'T BECAUSE OF THE CAR NOT START DO TO THE FAILING OF THIS SYSTEM THIS IS A ON GOING PROBLEM WITH ALOT OF GM MADE CARS FROM THE YEARS 1999-2004 I HAVE DONE ALOT OF RESEARCH WITH REPAIR SHOPS IN MY AREA AND OUT OF THE AREA. EVERYONE OF THIS PLACE I HAVE CALLED OR BEEN TO HAS TOLD ME THE SAME THING AND THAT IS THEY GET AT LEST ONE GM MADE CAR WITH IN THESE YEARS ONCE A MONTH. THE PROBLEM IS A FAULT IN THE PASS2 SYSTEM THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM IS TO TAKE IT TO A GM DEALER OR A AUTO ELECTION TO FIX THIS AND THE COST OF THIS IS OVER $500.00 . CHEVY REFUSES TO DO A RECALL ON THEIR PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. AND OTHER CARS. *TR
