The defect: CERTAIN TRANSIT BUSES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE STANDARD NO. 225, "CHILD RESTRAINT ANCHORAGE SYSTEMS." SOME TRANSIT BUSES WITH A GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT RATE OF 8500 LBS. TO 10,000 LBS. DID NOT HAVE CHILD RESTRAINT ANCHORAGE SYSTEMS INSTALLED.
The risk: THIS DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE STANDARD.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL CHILD RESTRAINT ANCHORAGE SYSTEMS. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT STARCRAFT AT 1-800-348-7440.

The defect: CERTAIN BUSES BUILT ON THE FREIGHTLINER SPRINTER CHASSIS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS NO. 207, "SEATING SYSTEMS," AND NO. 210, "SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY ANCHORAGES." THE UNDER FLOOR SUPPORT FOR THE SEAT MOUNTING DOES NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THESE STANDARDS.
The risk: IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE SEAT OCCUPANT MAY NOT BE PROPERLY RESTRAINED, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL ADD ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR MOUNTING THE SEAT LEGS THROUGH THE FLOOR. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN MARCH 28, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT STARCRAFT BUS AT 1-574-533-1105, EXT. 367.

What a recall is

Safety recall
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Safety investigation
NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
